English peña for Valencia Football Club.

Valencia_english_pea Plans are in hand to launch an English-speaking peña for Valencia Football Club. A peña is a type of micro football supporters' association and usually receives official support and discounts from the main football club.

The man behind the iniative is Robert Yareham - journalist on the Costa Blanca News.

Valencia players and staff will be meeting English speaking fans at a dinner in Lliria on Thursday 25 January. Tickets are strictly limited and costs just ten euros - thanks to a generous subsidy from the Costa Blanca News.

I have one ticket left.

So give me call if you are interested in starting the peña and wish to attend the dinner.

Campo de Turia keeps growing

Valencia_villa_prices The continued growth of the area to the north-west of Valencia city - known as the Campo de Turia - was further underlined today with the publication of  town population figures by the Spanish national statistical office (www.ine.es).

The growth is a result of Spaniards fleeing the high prices found near the centre of Valencia. Buyers from the UK are still a tiny minority. Towns in the area are connected by the CV-35 motorway and the forest of cranes beside the road bear witness to the headlong growth.

The average annual population growth for the three provinces of Valencia, Castellon, and Alicante was an impressive 2.4 per cent between the January 2005 and January 2006;  however, the annual growth for towns alongside the CV-35 was much higher.

Riba-roja: 18.329 - up 6.2 per cent

Pobla de Vallbona: 18.072: - up 5.6 per cent

Paterna:  57.343 - up 5.1 percent

Vilamarxant: 7.505 - up 4.9 per cent

Lliria: 21.078 - up 4.2 per cent

Bétera: 18.927 - up 4.1 per cent

Eliana: 16.121 - up 2.9 per cent

Of course, shrewd investors will know that a growing town population is the best long-term  guarantee of rising property prices.
